The Journey to Homeschooling: Protecting My Children and Strengthening Our Faith
Fear for My Children
“Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”
Before any real changes happened on my journey toward a closer relationship with God, I found myself deeply entrenched in fear. Fear for my children. Fear for what the future generations would look like. It wasn’t just an occasional worry—it was a daily weight that I carried.
With the ever-nearing election and the rapid changes happening in my children’s school system, I couldn’t ignore the sense of unease that grew inside me. Even though I wasn’t always directly informed about what was happening behind the scenes, I could feel the shift. Something in my spirit stirred with a call to action to protect them.
I’ve always believed in being clear with my children—teaching them about life, about faith, and about the world, all to the best of my ability. But what I was witnessing in their school felt like an attack on the very foundation of what I had been trying to instill in them. As I started looking deeper into the changes in the curriculum and the environment around them, it became clear that the schools—once a safe space for many—were no longer a place that aligned with the Christian values we held dear.
It was a difficult realization: the curriculum had become increasingly anti-Christian, teaching concepts that contradicted everything God’s Word had taught us. The books they were reading, the lessons they were being taught, and the environment they were in were no longer nurturing their faith but rather pulling them further away from it.
That realization hit me hard. I felt an urgent need to take control over what my children were learning and how they were being influenced. But in the midst of this turmoil, God was showing me something new. He was using this challenge as an opportunity to draw closer to Him, and in doing so, to make decisions that would strengthen my children’s faith and our family’s walk with Him.
Making The Decision
After prayer and conversation with my husband, we made the bold decision to homeschool. It wasn’t an easy choice—we knew it would be a huge transition, and there were many unknowns ahead of us. But we trusted that God had called us to take this leap, to step away from the traditional schooling system and provide an education that would align with our Christian values. And let me tell you, looking back, I can say with confidence that this was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made for our family.
Homeschooling has brought us closer together as a family. It has given us the freedom to teach my children in a way that honors God, allowing us to integrate faith into everything we do—from math to history to science. We are able to foster a love for learning that’s rooted in the truth of Scripture and in the belief that God created this world and everything in it. Homeschooling has given me the opportunity to be more intentional in shaping their hearts and minds, and for that, I am so thankful.
